Nessana Expedition

2025 Season
The 2025 fieldwork season at Nessana took place in February and August 2025, as part of an archaeological practicum for the department's students.
The excavations focus on three areas. At Area CC, the exposure of the Byzantine complex, identified as a pilgrimage hospice, was completed, revealing additional rooms, the substructure of the church, an open courtyard paved with mosaic, and the richly decorated caldarium of the bathhouse.
At Area AA, the excavations proceed towards the main streets of the ancient settlement, running from north to south and from east to west. At Area BB, we continued to expose the Ottoman remains of Auja al-Hafir settlement, dated to the early 20th century.
